Buzz about American Idol — Season 8

By Dr Matt

Top 3 Contestants

Dr Matt's weekly review of American Idol from the Top Thirty Six Singers to the Final Two:

36 - 1       36 - 2       36 - 3       Wild Card     13     11     10
  9       8       7       6       5       4      3      Final 2

On Yeong Hashimnika Dalbit Sarang Weonsung?

Since Korean is written in "characters" your chances of finding a phonetic Korean-to-English Dictionary, and translating the previous salutation, are very slim: So here is the translation: Are You At Peace Moonlight Love Monkeys?

So, we're down to three singing guys. Sounds like a perfect recipe to a Snore-Fest! Especially since it is so extremely obvious that Adam Lambert is the most talented singer of the Trio. Thus, I'm thinkin: Stick a fork in this Show, and bring on So You Think You Can Dance

With no Back-up Band, just guitar and voice,
Kris delivers a fantastic performance of "Heartless."

America Online Poll - Post-show May 13th
The Popular Vote — from Lowest to Mowest:

          13.  Jasmine Murray
   12.  Jorge Nunez
  11.  Alexis Grace
10.  Michael Sarver
        9.  Megan Corkrey

8.  Scott MacIntyre

        7.
 Lil Rounds
      6.  Anoop Desai
       5.  Matt Giraud
     4.  Allison Iraheta
 3.  Kris Allen + 1
     2.  Danny Gokey = 0
      1.  Adam Lambert = 0

Dr Matt's Red-Hot Reflections:

Adam Lamber is again found in the Bottom Three. Shocking? . . . But wait . . . there are only three contestants left, so . . . everyone is in the Bottom Three. Ha ha LOL. The Biggest suspense will be whether Danny or Kris will be Kicked to the Curb. But also, whether America will get off their Couch-Potato-Cans and vote for the BEST singer standing: Adam Lambert.

Because Adam Lambert is "gay," American Idol Producers are worried about the final vote enough, that they had Simon Cowell give a "don't assume that Adam is going to win . . . if you want him, then vote for him" Warning.

Dial Idol Results for the Top 3
from Less to Best:

        3.  Danny Gokey - 1
                      2.  Kris Allen + 1

1.  Adam Lambert = 0

Dial Idol is back on track. They accurately predicted the demise of Allison Iraheta. This week, the numbers are extremely close between Danny and Kris — less than one percentage point separate them. So, the margin of error comes into play! Either Kris or Danny could go home!

Last week's elimination:

 4 - Allison Iraheta"Cry Baby"
        Home Town: Los Angeles, California

Terrible song choice! Honestly, with the right Song, Allison could have saved herself (which was a reoccurring theme for many contestants this year, especially).

This song has no melody. It just repeats over and over the uninspiring title: Cry Baby . . . Cry Baby . . . Cray Baby. Very UN-entertaining! Still, she sung it well, and had a great duet with Adam — which was also a terrible song choice: Slow Ride! BORING . . . I had a major Snore-fest during this one!

* Songs from the Big Band/Rat Pack Era*

 6 - Kris Allen "Apologize"
        Home Town: Conway, Arkansas

This was a total "sound-alike" performance by Kris. He didn't change it up from the original. Ironically Kara (with Randy) chose this song for Kris, and then criticized him for NOT putting more originality in it.

Truthfully, some songs are MORE ameanable to being "changed up," so Kara and Randy may have just given Kris a song that fits his voice well, but was not so ameanable to being "changed up." Good performance, still . . . and he plays the piano!

 5 - Danny Gokey"Dance Little Sister"
        Home Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

This song really fits Danny's sand-paper, husky voice! A good song choice via Paula Abdul. However, Simon dissed the choice, saying that the , but should have chosen a more popular songs from the Terence Trent D'arby collection.

After reminding the two female judges that this is NOT a dancing show, but a singing contest, Simon admited that "the dancing was a bit desparate" — agreeing with Kara.

 4 - Danny Gokey"You Are So Beautiful "
        Home Town: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

"Stunning" . . . "You left us breatheless" . . . "I would call that a vocal master class" . . . WHAT? The first time hearing this piece, I was thinking: "where is Joe Cocker when you need him." Simon said it: Don't mess up the original arrangement. I just could NOT enjoy this song at all, because it wasn't even close to being as passionate and pleading and rought as Joe Cocker's classic rendition.

But, second time through, and putting the Joe Cocker comparison to the side, he sung this song pretty well.

 3 - Adam Lambert"One"
        Home Town: Los Angeles, California

Adam is able to infuse emotion into a song, soooooooo much better that the other two contestants. His performance was compelling.

 2 - Kris Allen "Heartless"
        Home Town: Conway, Arkansas

Just his Guitar and his voice. Pretty brave performance! He did this song FANTASTICALLY. All the judges thought so too! This performance may just put Kris in the final two!

 1 - Adam Lambert"Crying"
        Home Town: Los Angeles, California

Adam has this Billy-Idol-like attitude that saturates his on-stage presence. He just takes over when he performs, and draws everyone into the moment!

Who's going home tonight?

You just never know how many FANS will keep certain contestants alive, regardless of whether their performances were average or excellent. Just based upon his singing versatility and his guitar/piano skills, I'm rooting of Kris to make it to the Final Two with Adam.
Danny Gokey sings well. He's in the final 3 right?! But, overall, Danny's sing his song about the same way, every time. So, he's both consistently GOOD, but also consistently boring — after you've heard him sing a dozen song, or so

It could be either Danny or Kris.

Alas, the Pimp Spot (shared with Adam)

Top 3 Results Show: the Contestant Kicked to the Curb

Allison was the one to go! This was a surprise to me. Since it was clear that the Producers were giving her every advantage to move forward, . . . in the end, I thought the Producers would simply enforce their preference.

The fact that Allison was eliminated, is evidence that the Producers honored the popular vote in the end (which, theoretically, is what we all assume is the case anyway).

Three guys in the Final 3? Sounds like a recipe for boredom!

:o)
